Alles fing in einem Sommer voller Möglichkeiten an. Als Johnny Rotten seine Sex Pistols formierte, bevor Sid Vicious selbst anfing, zusammen mit Siouxsie Sioux aufzutreten. Als Malcolm McLaren und Vivienne Westwood den Bondage-Laden Sex gründeten und der Punk langsam in London entstand. Es war der Sommer des Jahres 1976. Ein Jahr, das alles verändern sollte. Schnell gelebte Träume, schnell geträumte Leben. Der Punk gegen die Obrigkeit, gegen die Dekadenz. Wie der Surrealismus, der Dadaismus und die Beatniks sollte er alle kommenden Jahrzehnte prägen. Der Punk war wie ein Zusammenprall, eine Kollision mit reaktionären gesellschaftlichen Werten. Er stellte Neuerung und Zukunftvisionen dar.

Es sollte eine rasante Zeit werden. 1977 wurde geboren und der Punk mit ihm. Man wollte schnell leben und früh sterben. So wie all die großen Köpfe vergangener musikalischer Dekaden. Meine Band of the week (22nd Januar 2014) ist Plastic Propaganda aus Hamburg. Wie so oft wünsche ich mich in längst vergangene Zeiten zurück. Ins Jahr 1976 zum 100 Club Punk Festival, dem Ort, wo alles begann. Plastic Propaganda entführen in die Ära der Gründungszeit, erinnern musikalisch an The Clash, die Pistols, The Jam und The Damned - die großen Punkbands der 70er. Plastic Propaganda schreiben echte Texte, machen ehrliche Musik, geprägt von einem der vielfältigsten musikalischen Jahrzehnte. Die ersten Töne ihres Songs Special Relation erinnern an Buzzcocks Ever Fallen In Love.

Plastic Propaganda schreiben kritische Texte (gesellschaftlich und politisch gesehen), hinzu kommt diese ungeschliffene, sehr punkèsque Garage-Ehrlichkeit. Wenn jedwede andere Art von Propaganda aussehen und sich anhören würde wie diese, ich würde sie liebend gern verbreiten, so ist es schließlich Musik, die ein Zeichen setzt, Wahrheiten ausspricht. Ihre Ästhetik orientiert sich an den frühen Punkbands; es entsteht diese besondere Harmonie, diese Utopie einer politischen Generation von Freidenkern. Supportband für SECT aus Barcelona, spielen sie anderntags in der Cobra Bar in Hamburg. So rock the Cobra Bar, würde wohl Joe Strummer sagen.


Everything started in a summer full of possibilities. When Johnny Rotten formed his Sex Pistols, before Sid Vicious started to perform together with Siouxsie Sioux. When Malcolm McLaren and Vivienne Westwood founded the Bondage store Sex and the punk slowly originated in London. It was the summer of 1976. A year that changed nearly everything. Fast lived dreams, fast dreamt lives. Punk rock against authority, against decadence. Like the surrealism, the Dadaism and the Beatniks, punk stamped all upcoming decades and musical styles. Punk was like a clash, a collision with reactionary social rules. It symbolised innovation and future visions.

It was a rapid time. 1977 gave birth to the real raw punk. One wanted to live fast and die young. Like all the big heads of the past musical decades. My band of the week is Plastic Propaganda from Hamburg (22nd Januar 2014). Like so many times before I wish myself back into the past. Into the year 1976 to the 100 Club Punk Festival, the place where everything began. Plastic Propaganda kidnap into the era of the formation of punk rock. Musically they remind of The Clash, The Sex Pistols, The Jam and The Damned - the big punk bands of the 70s. Plastic Propaganda write true lyrics, play honest music, caracterised by one of the most manifold musical decades. The first tones of their song Special Relation remind me of Buzzcocks’ Ever Fallen In Love.

Plastic Propaganda write critical lyrics, added to this raw, very punkèsque garage honesty. If any kind of other propaganda would look and sound like this, I would spread it with pleasure. Their aesthetics is geared by the early punk bands; this evolving utopian concept of a political generation of libertines. They have already supported SECT from Barcelona and will play at the Cobra Bar in Hamburg, among other places. So rock the Cobra Bar, Joe Strummer would probably say.
